🌿 Woodpeckers are famous for hammering into trees with their beaks. They do this not only to find food but also to communicate. The woodpecker symbolizes seeing new possibilities, persevering, and pursuing what makes your heart beat faster. Yesterday, a very sweet customer of mine sent me a message to let me know that someone had used one of my drawings for her tapestry. As every artist has experienced, scammers often steal drawings. But this time, it was altered with AI, but still clearly theft. I was simply stunned. It made me think again about the difference between inspiration and outright theft. In slide 7, you can see my inspiration for this drawing, and in slide 8, the AI. Thankfully, I've received so many sweet messages and support from you all. Thank you so much for that! After so many years I am so excited to share with you the project that took so much love: The Feywood Oracle! "Ancient oaks, light birches, deep roots, and hidden circles. The Feywood Oracle is an oracle deck created by Mary Feywood with texts by Amanda Beelen. A deck filled with ancient forest magic, wise women, and spirit animals from the forest. Various cards are inspired by old Dutch folktales, both well-known and lesser-known." - 50 sturdy cards with drawings and wisdom - Includes a guide filled with poems, meanings, symbolism, sample spreads, and additional background information - Sturdy box with a beautiful gold print (it will be even prettier with gold oak leaves and acorns!) The available languages for now will be: Dutch & English. As I publish the deck by myself, costs of translations and printing are high so I can't do every language, sadly. Take a walk with me in the Dutch forest 🍂 Some pictures I took of my walk yesterday. I lived my whole life in this forest, and of each path and view I share memories with the trees. Nature is slowing down. I hope you find the rest to do so too 💚

Everything is interwoven." One of my newest drawings, based on the old Dutch legend of the woman who lived in a hollow tree and spun fate there. The text above is a snippet of the poem by Amanda, who made the texts for my Oracle Deck. Currently, it is translated into English and I can't wait to share the result with you! ❤️ "When one entered the forest at night, one could see a light burning and hear the maiden spinning in the tree. What I have been up to these weeks 🌿💚🌲 1. Lots and lots of festivals! Last weekend, @castlefest was absolutely amazing. Thank you all for visiting my market stall, and thanks so much to all volunteers, it was positively enchanting! 💚 This month, you can find me at @official_annotopia coming weekend and @middeleeuwswinschoten 2. The Elder Keeper Last @loreleifestival, I had a wonderful time painting live and working on the magic of the Elder Keeper. I painted with much love, using oil paints and elderberry sprigs. 🌿 A combination that always works for me, is earth and water. Rain in the forest, a small woodland lake, a waterfall next to the old spruce and birch. Water wants to flow, and water should flow. Are you holding on to something tensely? Water teach us to live from love instead of fear: whether the river bends to the right or to the left, life wants to live, and it will find a way. 🌿 It has been a while! I am very grateful for all the client projects I am busy with, the oracle deck that is progressing every day and the nice weather for forest walks. On the other hand, all the use of AI generated images hangs like a sword of Damocles somewhere above my head. Every now and then there are those doubts. Will I still have work in a year? Do people care if art is made by a person? Do they feel that connection? Do they care? The answer is: YES. I am so grateful for everyone who knows and feels the value of real art. Art that contains love and feeling. Art that is made in hours, days, months. Art with a heart, with a message, an aura. I thank you all for your support. 🌿What a year. A year with many ups and many downs, but above all I am incredibly grateful for your support. Every order, every purchase at a fair, every reaction, every sweet message. Thank you! The drawing is called 'Aurora Ancestors', inspired by all the cultures from all over the world who saw their beloved ancestors in the dancing skies. I am really looking forward to next year. The Forest Bear | De Grote Beer "Soft as mother eyes Strong as the embrace of father arms" I can't tell you how incredibly grateful and excited I am to be creating my oracle deck in collaboration with the amazing @amandabeelen. These two lines were from her (don't dare to tell more, it will come!), and wow, I am always blown away by how beautifully her poems and reflections align with my drawings and paintings... and how my drawings align with her texts, but that's another project I'll share more about when the time comes! :) The Forest Bear, the cuddly bear, the embracing bear, the strong bear. Het Witte Wief A painting inspired by one of my favorite folk tales from the Netherlands, the white ladies ("witte wieven"). Ladies in white, ghosts, burial mound guardians, witches or women of mist. Unfortunately my health is still a bit poor, but luckily I still manage to paint every now and then. The Morrígan is a figure from Irish mythology, associated with war and fate, especially with foretelling doom, death, or victory in battle. In this role she often appears as a crow. A drawing with reference for womenhood, folklore and nature. 🌿

My art over the years with crows and ravens, to get into the energy of coming @castlefest where the #wicker this year is the Corvus. A year ago I married my best friend. The one with whom I can walk for hours through the woods, who supports my art dream, with whom I can laugh and cry, and above all, the one who loved the crazy idea of ​​a fantasy-forest-pagan-handfast wedding as much as I did. A wonderful day with barefoot dancing to Celtic music, the sweetest dressed up guests, the tastiest vegan food and the forest in the background. The Crow-raven I remember reading a Lenape story as a small girl, about the crow being one of the most colourful and beautiful feathered bird with the voice of an angel. After a long period of cold weather, the animals became worried and decided to send a messenger to the Great Sky Spirit to ask for relief. The crow makes the journey to the Spirit and carries back a gift of fire. He returns, but the fire has scorched his beautiful plumage black, and his voice has been made rough and hoarse by the smoke. I always loved the story, remembering that someone as a crow, often being negatively symbolized as death and bad luck, can have a beautiful other story 🖤 The crow-raven, the first in line of the totem animals. When I am in nature, I can breathe and I feel connected, with myself and with all life. A reminder that it is okay to take a rest, that it is okay that some days, all you can do is breathe. When I started one year ago with attending markets and festivals with my art, I did not know it would be so much fun! I absolutely love decorating my market stall into a witchy forest. A portal in the shape of a door, a shadow, a pool, a circle of mushrooms. Fairy Circle Dance Mushroom circles in the forest are always a lovely surprise to find. Those fairy circles play a huge role in old beliefs and folklore, such as portals or places where elves and witches meet. In Dutch, my mother language, fairy circles translate to 'witches circle'. A big inspiration resulting in this newest drawing. 🌿 Prints available on eco friendly paper. 🙋 Hands up if you too want to dance on a warm midsummer night in a witches circle until the portal to the fairy world opens to take you there

The Forest Queen | De boskoningin One of my earlier drawings, the Crone queen of the forests. She is not crowned with gold or diamonds, but with oak and flowers, with clay and mud and turkeytail mushroom. She is made from what she is connected to. Wishing you a beautiful day from the woodlands 💚🌲

Collaboration | Previously, if I really wanted to photograph my art indoors, I would drag furniture aside, set up light screens and work with tape and prayers. Fortunately, that is now a thing of the past. A collaboration with the app that I now really like to use for art mock-ups, @frameit_app. I hope this app can help you too in your art projects!

The Morrígan The Morrígan is a figure from Irish mythology, associated with war and fate, death or victory in battle. In this role she often appears as a crow. Sometimes I am not happy with older drawings, so when the time is right, I add new layers, resulting in this dark, strong woman. 🤍 Eco friendly art prints available in my shop. Imbolc is near 💚 Here in the Netherlands the sun occasionally shines through the gray skies again. I used to live less with the seasons, but now that I live in an old and very cold house near the forest, you feel completely revived when spring is in the air (no more four sweaters and two scarves!). Lesana | Forest Eyes Sometimes I make drawings that are not yet 'finished'. Like with a portrait from 2020 (the last slide). There was still some inspiration missing, the drawing waits until the right moment comes... and that is now, 2024. Mixed with extra forest witch vibes, the energy of the cat and some venom, voilà, there she is! But then the second hard part - naming your work.
